hokay, so...here's my lifei was asked this week to start training in the lab...which is amazing. that is why i started working there. so, on tuesday and wednesday of this week i spent time getting acquainted with the lab. on tuesday i learned how to enter patients into the labcorp computer, how to assign diagnosis and test codes, what tubes to use for what labs, how to run the urinalysis machine, how to do a pt check, and about ten thousand other things.
on wednesday i drew blood for the first time!! i drew from melanie first, who is a nurse there, and then i drew from 2 patients! i was able to get blood on the first stick for each of them too!! how exciting! i learned the cbc machine and some other randomness. i think the only machine i have not learned is the a1c machine. very fun!!! very scary though, having to prove myself to dr. de.
i have yet to master the technique of blood pressure. lol. go me. i practiced on a few people on wednesday and i couldn't hear anything on anyone! agh!!
i went home this past weekend and helped my mom cook for father's day. my aunt and uncle came up and we brought my grandfather from college walk to the house on sunday and we had ribs, burgers and other yummies. i felt like top chef on saturday night! i made a minted fruit salsa and a key lime pie. however i managed to burn the crud out of my arm when i was checking the pie (the margaritas threw off my depth perception...lol). it still looks pretty gnarly.
i had my 3rd dr's appointment on thursday, and i am down 7 more pounds (16 total in 2 months), and down 2% on my BMI. that's pretty exciting, but i am on more medications than some 80 year olds!! derek did say that with the time i am spending every day at the gym that i should be losing 10-12 pounds every month, so he is kinda bumfazzled (that is the scientific term!!). i'll have my labs redrawn before my next appointment so we will see where my cholesterol, b-12, and thyroid hormones are at.

| good lord it has been a long time! a lot has happened!
-i graduated with a degree in pre-professional biology -i have a full time job at the doctor's office, though not where i want to be -i'm moving soon, just to another apt in boone -i have a dog, and his name is peanut (i promise he's not mentally handicapped like this picture suggests)
-he is an akc registered yorkie (hee hee) -i am trying hard to not kill myself or anyone around me (lol) working in a dr's office is stressful, especially since it is mostly women and one of the guys there is the owner who is from argentina and is bi-polar. fun fun
that is it for now! | | |
| so i am in love with molecular biology lab. i have received an 100 on every lab report we have done. i understand what we are doing. i don't fuck up (well, other than the picture below). i love it. i wish i had taken it sooner so that i could have spent more time possibly doing research with dr. connell.
mom is coming up this weekend so that should be fun. homecoming, good food, alumni, and partying. it's going to be great. well, other than the 830am rehearsal saturday morning for marching band. that, not so much.
that's it for now...picture time
this is why i suck at life, and this particular molecular lab. these are pcr (polymerase chain reaction) tubes. i broke all three of them. i know they are fragile. i just wasn't paying attention to the squeezing i was doing to the tubes when i was trying to put the caps on. not only did i break these, i wasted expensive taq polymerase and buffer. yay me.

yay for sexy party time with my lovelies! that's L-R anna, myself and jennifer. my glasses are crooked so that is annoying. oh well. yay fun! | | |
| On October 11 I am going to Discovery Place to see
Gunther von Hagens' BODY WORLDS: The Anatomical Exhibition of Real Human Bodies. I am so excited! It was $88 for 3 tickets so it should be good!!
If Appalachian loses this game I may kill myself.
I am working on getting an internship at Mission Hospital in Asheville. I have to go back to school at some point to get my medical lab technician certification so that I can actually work in a lab. This makes me unhappy. I don't want to go to school anymore. It's 2 years and a summer, and I can do it online if I can find a lab here to work in.
Here are some pictures:
